Iqra Education Project

IQRA Primary Education:

Kawish Welfare Trust has successfully established a mass literacy network. It is now running over 220 schools under the name of IQRA PROJECT in remote areas of Lahore, Bahawalnagar, Muzafargarh, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanewal, Karachi, Islamabad and Multan districts.

  • KWT has adopted the syllabus of Punjab Tex Book Board. The syllabus is completed in three years along with Nazirah Qur'an.
  • After three years of education the students appear in the primary board exam.
  • At present there over 6,000 students (girls & boys) enrolled.
  • 200 teachers have been employed. Some teachers manage two schools.
  • Success rate is hundred percent. In last year, over thirty percent students passed in the first division, whereas, all the remaining students passed in second division.
  • One girl student has taken 3rd position in Bahawalnagar region.
  • These students belong to illiterate families. These kids also help out their parent to earn bread and better.

Total Cost of an average school, with 35 kids, is about Rupees 11,000 per month ($110). The cost includes tuition fee, cost of monitoring and coordination, books and other facilities.

IQRA Plus – Middle Level Education FOR GIRLS:

IQRA project schools were originally established to combat illiteracy. Students are educated upto primary. The students have developed an urge to continue education.

As an experiment Kawish opened two IQRA Plus schools for boys in 2006. 65 students were admitted in these schools and were educated upto middle. They were also given computer training in a computer lab with 20 computers.

These boys have passed the middle exam. 54 of them are studying in Govt. schools to complete matriculation. These students are given a monthly stipend of Rs. 100 with the help of Akhuwat.

  • After the successful completion of two middle schools for boys, KWT has converted them to girl's schools instead.
  • First girls' school was opened in October 2008 and the in March 2009.
  • These schools are equipped with computer labs that was set up for the boy schools.

Currently there are five lady teachers employed and 106 girls are studying in these schools. These girls shall be provided education up to class 8. Then they will appear in Elementary Board Examination.
